MAY TVEIT

The personal and the universal collide in the works of May Tveit (born 1966, Nyack, NY). She is an American sculptor known for large-scale geometric works and installations. Her corrugated cardboard sculptures, prints and assemblages all carry a connection to the physicality of the body while exploring energy flows that transcend material boundaries. Trained in industrial design and descending from a family with roots in carpentry, Tveit has a strong affinity for geometric objects, building systems and a deep interest in the aesthetics of mundane materials.

Tveit’s work has been exhibited at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (KS), the Weatherspoon Art Museum (NC), UK Art Museum (KY) and venues such as Farmprojects (MA) and Secrist Beach gallery (IL). Her work has been featured in publications and media outlets including Art in AmericaArt Papers, and National Public Radio. Tveit has developed her printmaking practice through residencies at Anderson Ranch (CO), Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (ME), Art Omi (NY), and the Frans Masereel Centrum (BE). She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, studied in Rome through the RISD European Honors Program, and has a Master’s degree from the Domus Academy in Milan.
